If you know me, feel free to skip this section since I realize it is a) repetitive and b) monopolizes many conversations we have.
I am a runner.
I love running.
In any season. In any weather. On any trail.
Especially on hills.
I love it all.
Indeed, I am a runner.
Growing up, I was always active and played a sport every season since the 4th grade. I always thought I was a lot better at sports than I really was since I was tall for my age. Some how, I felt that this made me more gifted. I was very wrong. I was lanky and uncoordinated and would get easily frustrated when I made an error. Which was frequently.... I distinctly remember my first recreational run: it was sometime in high school. I just decided to go around my neighborhood. It was maybe a mile. I didn't stop. I just ran. When I stopped, I felt exhilarated. For me, running filled that frustrated gap with a plethora of possibility. I could go ANYWHERE. I could do ANYTHING. I could be as fast or slow as my body let me, and I felt FREE.
It's been a long road since that first run. Since then, I have gone many a runs: in the snow, rain, mud, barefoot, up hills, in forests, on tracks, timed, on race courses, getting lost, without a watch, to feel, to escape, to enjoy.
It's uncanny, the similar feeling of pure exhilaration that ensues after I complete a run as I had finished that first run so many years ago.
If you haven't stopped reading yet, thanks! (I can write/read/talk about running ALOT.) And since that is the case, I have decided to chronicle my running and fitness endeavors! I hope you join me in my journey as I tackle these events in the next coming months:
- May 5th, 2013 - Cleveland Marathon (5th marathon...)
- June 1st, 2013 - Buckeye Buster 50k (1st attempt at an ultra marathon!)
I hope you join me. And I hope it's entertaining. Until then, run on my friends :)
